Morals

Whilst driving from Montenegro, across Albania, a synthesis of William Hatcher’s take on morality and Ken Wilber’s formulation of morality was born.
I was in a jazz bar in Kosovo called Hamam, with a friend called Matt and we started to chat about deeper stuff and it all came out.

Holons are part/wholes. So for example an atom is a whole and at the same time a part of a molecule.
Holons have intrinsic value as wholes and extrinsic values as parts.

An atom has intrinsic value as it is whole, but extrinsic value as a part.

An ape has intrinsic value as a whole and includes the mamillian brain, which includes the reptilian brain which includes cells, which includes molecules which include atoms, but extrinsic or instrumental value as apart of the ecosystem it is apart.

An ape has more intrinsic value than a rock because it contains atoms and molecules which is the reality of a rock and more. But a rock has more extrinsic or instrumental value.

The higher they’re in the holarchy the more whole they are as they include lower holons and therefore hold more intrinsic value.

The pursuit of higher values over lower values can be seen as a moral process.
A Panentheistic God, is the supreme value in existance as He transcends and includes all other holons. Therefore a moral principle is pursue God.
Authentically pursue God
Altruistic love governs our relationships with other humans – see Baha’i writing on this subject.Humans are the supreme value on this planet as they have great and we should pursue relationships which enable others to reach ever greater wholeness. Self sacrafice is the hallmark of altruistic love. And to sacrafice our lower selves for the other person to reach more wholeness or holiness is to achieve that.
We should also pursue our own self knowledge or awareness.
Pursue Justice in the group or collective which is all about enabling the flourishing of love.
To sacrafice anger – a product of a lower holon inside each individual (limbic system or our furry mammilian ancenstor self) for calmness and loving atmosphere in which the other person can flourish and become whole is one stoke of altruism.

Parenting as a spiritual practice

Came accoss this website http://nextstepintegral.org/

The website has very interesting material on making parenting a spiritual practice, and even runs a course on it.  I’m thinking of doing it.

Parenting does  require supernatural patience, alturistic love, empathy, and a bunch of other spiritual attributes. And parenting provides by far one of the best grounds for spiritual growth than any other situation in life that i can think of. I think.

The amount of patience it requires is phenomenal especially in the midst of a busy work life and the many other things that life thows at you. I met a Kosovar friend of mine the other day in the city who talked about seeing God in the mothers as they demonstrate altruistic love to the max. Nice thought.

Seeing your child as a seed planted in the cosmos to be nurtured in all apects including their cognative, spiritual, emotional, physical, dimensions in the context of an evolving universe is very empowering.

Big travel plans

Arrived back in Kosovo after a good month in the UK with my family. Made a new life goal. Travel the world and visit sites related to big history. A sort of pilgrimage.  So visit Ethiopia where Lucy the australopithecine  was discovered, or visit the NASA’s Space Telescope Science Institute which manages the Hubble telescope. This telescope was is in someways significant to big history as it has revelaled insights into the size and nature of the Universe. Visit Iraq where the first agrarian civilisations are thought to have arisen. Visit parts of England where the industrial revolution is thought to have begun. Then so on. Blog about it, make a documentary etc. Its a cool lifetime travel agenda. I look forward to it!
